Burglary Repairs: Your Questions Answered
Immediate Response
My property has been broken into. What do I do first?
First, make sure you’re safe. If someone may still be inside, leave and call 999. Otherwise, call 101 for a crime reference number, then call me.
Can you secure my property tonight?
In most cases, yes. During the same visit, I’ll make your property as secure as I can.
Do I need a crime reference number before you attend?
No, you can call me straight away. However, if the police want to examine the damage, wait for them first. Later, the reference number will help you with your insurer.
How quickly can you get to me?
I reach most Staines-upon-Thames addresses within 20-30 minutes. Meanwhile, surrounding towns usually take 30-45 minutes.
Security and Locks
Which locks do you replace after a break-in?
I replace any lock that thieves forced, snapped or tampered with, and any lock where thieves may have taken the keys. In addition, I fit anti-snap-rated cylinders as standard.
The burglar came through the back door. Do you only fix that one?
No. I check every external door, because thieves may have weakened other locks too.
My door frame has been damaged. Can you repair it?
Yes, I can adjust the door, keep and alignment, and I can repair minor frame damage. However, if the frame or door needs replacing, I’ll tell you honestly and explain your options.
Will the new locks meet my insurer’s requirements?
That depends on your policy. First, ask your insurer for the exact standard in writing. Then call me, and I’ll tell you what I can do to meet it.
Insurance and Documentation
Do you provide paperwork for my insurer?
Yes. I give you a clear, itemised invoice that describes the work and parts.
My insurer says I need to upgrade my locks. Will your work satisfy this?
It often can. Since every insurer words this differently, check their exact requirement first. Then I can advise you on what to fit.
Can I claim the locksmith’s cost on my insurance?
Many home policies cover emergency repairs after a break-in, but it depends on yours. Because I can’t advise you on your cover, keep your invoice and crime reference number together, and ask your insurer.
After the Visit
What should I do about the rest of my home’s security?
Ask me to check your other doors and locks. Afterwards, I’ll point out the weak points, and you decide what to upgrade.
How do I avoid being targeted again?
Replace worn or forced locks, fit anti-snap cylinders, and make sure every door closes and locks smoothly. Together, these small upgrades make a real difference.
They smashed a window to get in. Can you secure that too?
Broken glass needs a glazier. However, I can secure your doors and locks, and I can check your window locks and handles.
Do you attend break-ins in Windsor, Slough and Woking?
Yes. See the areas below. Moreover, I provide the same service across my whole area, with no extra travel charge.
Do you cover the villages between the main towns?
Yes. If you’re in or near my service area, call me, and I’ll confirm.
